Our afternoon trip was to a lavender farm. It's too early for lavender to be in bloom, but we did see lots of plants, heard how to make lavender oil, and learned how to propagate lavender cuttings. The most interesting thing is how much lavender flowers it takes to make oil. I hope I'm remembering the proportions right when I say that it takes 250 pounds of flowers to make 1 pint of oil. That's a lot of flowers for a very little oil! It makes sense that they have 100s of acres planted with lavender.
The piece of equipment pictured here is an old-style flower harvester.
