Peterborough Cathedral

Saturday, May 11, p.m.

Then we attended a very early evensong at the Peterborough Cathedral. Evensongs are traditionally held at 4:30 or 5:00, but this one was at 3:30. This time the entire tour group was able to sit in the choir stalls, but the choir was between us and the altar instead of between us and the congregation. The SATB choir was visiting from another Cathedral, unfortunately, so we didn't get to hear the resident choir.

After the service, our tour guide, Maggie, approached one of the clerics to see if we'd be allowed to see some of the needleworked altar cloths and vestments. They were more than happy to show us some stunning needlework. They even referred to the one altar cloth as “the best red” as they too recognize its worth. It was a wonderful visit.

Dinner at the hotel was great and much too much food. Because of too much riding in the coach, we only walked 3.6 miles.
