The Collection Museum

Sunday, May 12, p.m.

In the afternoon we visited The Collection Museum in Lincoln to view samplers from the 19th and 20th centuries and embroidered clothing from the 17th and 18th centuries. We were guided through the collection by Sara, the Collections Access Officer. (I love that title!) The clothing was stunning and it was interesting to see how thin some of the men were back then. My shoulders are broader than the shoulders in most of the men's waistcoats. Buttons were embroidered as well as pocket flaps and any part of the waistcoat that would show under the overcoat. Here is a detail from one of the waistcoats. Even the buttons are embroidered!

This is a coif, a type of cap.

And a sampler dated 1793.

Sara also invited 2 local teachers to bring some of their work and to talk with us. They were very nice and had interesting items and techniques to share.

From there we went to our hotel. Dinner was again WAY too much food, but this was gourmet quality. Since we aren't walking nearly as much as we did in London, we have to watch how much we are eating. Starting tomorrow, I'm not going to eat everything that is put in front of me. I will be chubby in no time!
